SECOND HAND TREASURES

Thrift shopping can seem like a daunting task (so much stuff to sort through!) but here's 4 tips to get you started.

1. First things first, know what you're looking for.

A great way to get to the heart of a good find, is to write a list of all your possible items. Going in blind can be a risk, and a great way to waste a lot of time. If you have time, then perfect! But odds say that you don't, so make sure you have a list to save time, and you might even save some money... that brings me to the second tip.

2. Cash not Card.

I always find it easier to carry cash when thrift shopping rather than wave around a card, for one reason and one reason only. No unnecessary purchases. If you go in with a budget, you're only going to buy the items that fit into said budget. Decor and furniture isn't cheap (even secondhand) but a tight budget and an even tighter resolve can keep you on the road to a fantastic find.

3. Measurements!

The cardinal sin: forgetting to measure and plan out your space. This might be the most important tip on the list, as forgetting to measure (or even measuring incorrectly) can waste time, money and even break your space. So never forget a tape measure or something of that caliber, because an item (no matter how beautiful or perfect it may be) that's just one or two centimeters off, will lead to frustration and regret. Don't leave it to chance, plan it out ans spend accordingly

4. Know Your Space!

This final tip is essential when buying larger items of furniture and decor for your home, and doesn't just apply for second hand goods either. It's wise to snap some pictures of the space you want to fill out or add to beforehand, as you might find something gorgeous while rummaging, but at the end of the day, it may not fit with your homes current aesthetic. But if you want to fill out an entire space in one go, try compiling items within a corner of the store (be sure to check with the proprietor beforehand) so you can get a good idea of what everything will look like within your home!
